Tarot Thursday

Sorry for my radio silence - work has been really hectic. But I'm here as always for tarot thursday. To share some wisdom from the other side with you.

Today, I did a variation of your typical three card spread.

The card in the middle is the first card you lay down, card number one. In this spread it asks the question; Who Am I?
Who are you?
It represents your current state, or maybe a core foundation to your life.

Card 2 which is the card laid to the left asks, Where do I come from?
A bit more than just asking about the past, here you are asking for a specific factor of your past, that is going to affect the you now, and the you of the future.

The final card asks, Where Am I Heading?
What does the future hold?

For your first card I pulled; The Eight of Swords

You feel trapped. But you are trapped in your own imagination, by your own perceptions and thoughts. Remember your mind is your own worst enemy. Now is not the time to make decisions, your views are compromised. You need to take off that blindfold, and see things differently. Clear your mind, and focus on what is truth, and what is important. There is a clear path before you, if only you look to see it.

The second card, which is where you have come from, was; The Ace Of Swords

Aces symbolise new beginnings, fresh starts. You have a strong heart, and have had to make hard choices. You've found the strength to use your potential. You've had a significant 'aha' moment of clarity and breakthrough, that has helped shape your future.

And lastly, but by no means least - the future spot.
Where are you heading?
I was scared to pull this, in case I got a really negative, shadow card for you all. But I shouldn't have worried.
You all have wonderful things in front of you...all of you.

The Empress

Pure and wild creativity will run in your soul. You will be unlimited in creative potential! There is an element of nurture and motherly care, coming from you. Taking charge, being compassionate, and passionate.

I adore this card, and am lucky enough to pull it often for myself.

                                                                   --------------------------

This weekend I WILL have up my blog on how to pull your cards for a reading. It's all typed up, I just need to take the adjoining photos, to make it easier to explain.

Hope you've all had a wonderful week.

Maybe We've Met Before...

In last weeks Parlour class with Veronica Varlow, we were talking about past lives, and connecting to the otherside.
It's not something I've thought of often...honestly hardly at all.
Mainly because to think about things like reincarnation - creates questions about the death of this lifetime...and I'm a bit of a wimp really.

I do like the idea of reincarnation...the idea that we've all wandered this land for centuries, as french courtesans, maybe an inmate in bedlam, an egyptian queen, a farmer, a healer in Salem.
It brings new guidance to the meaning of fate. True love, those friendships that you're unexplainably drawn to.
How romantic is the notion that you have walked this earth a number of times, and each time you are drawn towards this person/these people. You unknowingly travel in their direction, a connection of old souls that will last for eternity.

Maybe there was a life where you couldn't find each other?
Maybe it's this one.

And your ancient soul is wandering lost - seeking each other out.

Does it not explain some of our irrational fears? Odd things that bring a shiver down our spine...those moments your heart beats a little faster in unknown fear.
Perhaps your fear of things wrapped around your neck, is because in a past life you were hung from the gallows.
Or by chance your fear of deep water, that thing inside you that you can't push passed to swim just a little bit further, maybe that is because you drowned in a past life...maybe not even you, maybe someone you were close to.

But you see, thinking about the concept of past lives opens up even more questions. Do our family lines stay the same? Is my mum in this life, also my mum when I was basking in the sweaty heat of ancient Egypt? Did I have siblings in a past life? Where are they now? Do our familiars return to us, life and life again? Or even family members on a different level of reincarnation in the form of the family cat?
It's a bit sad to imagine that we only get this family in this lifetime.
Once. The connection a temporary and frail thing to be cherished.

Does the cycle end? Is there a time when we are done on this earth, and move to the Summerlands? Are ghosts those who are done with the transitions, preparing to move on?
Questions we can only fathom a guess at.

I have a strong call to vintage clothing, Marie-Antionette ball gowns, medieval gowns. Certain eras of fashion really draw me in.

I have always been drawn to Egypt, an odd infatuation since childhood. Somewhere I was lucky enough to visit recently. I was not struck with typical de ja vu, but when I was in certain areas, and I saw the atrocity of pollution in the Nile, or the demolition of dessert landscapes - an unexplainable sadness came over me. A sadness I had no right to feel, and all I kept thinking was 'this isn't right'.
At the tombs and the pyramids, as I discreetly trailed my fingertips along the stone, and the paintwork. Those thousand year old paintings of sacrifice and pharaohs - they spoke to me. My knowledge of heiroglyphs is fairly limited, and whilst I can manage basic sentences, I knew I shouldn't have been able to understand the depth and emotion on these walls...but I could. I felt it deep in my stomach.

When I stood under The Notre-Dame in France, in the cloak of midnight darkness, with a fire-breather lighting the night-sky, causing odd shadows to skitter across the church. The flames lapping at my skin, cutting off the bite of the wind. A simple thought and emotion came over me;

Home.
I'd never been there before, but I walked the cobbled streets with some mysterious knowledge for my guide. I never got lost, meandering down side-streets, a sense of contentment filling my heart.

We all have moments like this.
Don't we?

Unexplained.
That feeling that we've met before...

Well maybe we have.

The Life Spiral

Hi loves.
Sorry, there's a lot of tarot going on here on the blog at the moment.

But I just took another huge step in the eyes of tarot.
I made my own tarot spread!!

I'm sure there is something similar around, but I genuinely sat down and this came to me organically.

I've called it;

The Life Spiral Spread

I loved the idea of including spirals, the idea of this journey.
I've always loved Fibonaccis number, and the idea of perfect facial features being based on it's Golden Spiral.
So, this felt very natural.

(You start at the central point, and follow around to the left, then up, and then simply spiral.)

Card One - Represents you.
Card Two - Shows obstacles in your path.
Card Three - What the past has taught you.
Card Four - Where do you want to go/ see yourself heading?
Card Five - Present Situation.
Card Six - Hopes or Fears.
Card Seven - The Future.
Card Eight - Overall outcome.

Here's a reading I did with this spanking new spread.

It was full of wonderful pulls - For example in the spot of card three, what has the past taught you - I actually pulled The Hierophant! The cards literally talking about a mentor, who has aided my life.

And yet again, in my future spot I pulled - The Magician - which keeps appearing here :)

-------------------------

I would love it if you'd give my little spread a try!
Let me know what you think, how it feels to you.
And I encourage you when you are ready to try creating your own spread...start thinking simply.

Reinvent a classic perhaps?

Sketch out a symbol you feel drawn to and make a spread in that shape?

I'm looking at the rune symbol Ehwar presently, and inventing a spread for travel.
Hopefully it'll be ready before my Scotland trip.

-------------------------
Up and coming on my blog, I have a few recipes to share, a vlog on autumnal/Halloween books, more tarot love, and I'm working on a video companion to my tea-leaf divination blog.

Love and Light to you all

The Magic Tree Spread

Tarot lovers,
Gypsy sister,
Magic makers,
and
Dream weavers.

Today, because you've all been so good. I'm going to share with you a full in-depth analysis of a reading I performed for MYSELF.

This is something I wouldn't usually do in full.
Readings are personal things,
They are secrets whispered to you by the cards,
From the Divine.
And usually that is how they stay, for your ears and minds alone.

However this reading was so powerful to me, And as I'm taking you on my tarot journey, I feel I should share with you, what may be one of my most spot - on, non-question readings to date.

As I've mentioned my connection to tarot is ever-growing, my skill is expanding into something even I did not foresee.
And I don't mean that in an arrogant way. But the hours, the learning, the magic I've put into my divination is being returned to me in the gift of this.

So, lets jump in.

This spread is 'The Magic Tree' Spread which I was lucky enough to be taught by Veronica Varlow in the last parlour session.
And I hope she doesn't mind me sharing it here in this way.
I'm not trying to teach you what me and so many others pay for from her, I'm simply taking you on my personal tarot train.
This blog is about what the cards say for me (or you) and not about how to do these spreads, or a step by step guide to this form of divination.

The Magic Tree
The base cards are about your roots, and where you come from.
The next card up, is about your foundations. What makes you you?
Followed by your heart and your emotions.
Next is an overall view, an overlook on you and your life.
And finally the top two cards are your branches. What your dreams are, and how to reach them.
Card 1 and Card 2 -

I pulled 'The Stag' and 'The Green Man' for my root cards.
In the Rider Waite deck that is Strength, and The Emperor!

Could I ask for a better place to come from? These cards suggest my ancestors were super strong people.
The Stag is all about courage and overcoming fears.
The Emperor is the card of positive order, determination and focus.

'The Seer'
Better known as The High Priestess.
Now this card, in this position, has me excited.
(I think I'm about to sound arrogant again, aren't I?)

So this spot in the spread is about your foundations. The base of yourself.
The Seer is someone who is totally in touch with her intuition. She knows the worlds mysteries, and she is strong and powerful.
An Inner guide you NEED to listen to.
Your own voice.
Trust her.

In my emotions zone, I pulled 'The Gaurdian' - You know that little friend of ours, normally called 'The Devil'.
Don't be scared of these cards loves!
Don't shy away from what the cards are telling you, it's not a positive card by any means. But like everything in tarot it is workable, and guidance.
So...The Gaurdian/Devil stands for being held back. It's about enslavement. You have to remember that YOU are your own worst enemy!
Your mind is usually what stops you moving forward in life.

I'm definitely feeling this card.
I always stop myself from reaching for what I want.
And in my heart of hearts I know this...
So let's put a stop to this shall we,
And chuck myself out into the big scary world!
(If only it was that easy, right?!)

Now... I love my Wildwood Tarot Deck - but the only place we have some confusion is with the suit cards. The meaning's don't quite match up always to the traditional meanings.
So what I do, when reading for myself or someone else, is combine the meaning given to me in my guide book, with a traditional Rider Waite analysis.
Here I pulled the 'Five Of Bows (Wands)' - This card is about competition, strife and conflict. But it is also about empowerment. By facing and defeating our greatest fears, we empower ourselves, and build our resilience.

In regards to myself, and the fact that this card is an overview of myself. I believe this conflict is nearly solitarily internal. Again, it's me being my own worst enemy.

And finally, we reach the trees branches. My dreams, what needs to be done to achieve them, what I'm reaching for, and how to achieve it.

We'll start with 'The Blasted Oak', which is 'The Tower'.
The Tower is a card about the shattering of illusions, having a total breakthrough. It suggests that stronger foundations need to be made.
Does that seem odd at all?
As my foundation cards were so strong and positive?
But just because I have those foundations, doesn't mean I use them. It doesn't mean I am using that strength, my ancestors had.
The final card is the 'Seven Of Bows (Wands)'
Paired up with the 'The Tower' This card says I need to have a clear out, and sort out my priorities. Because this card is Wands, there is an element of challenge, competition, and perseverance. It suggests you are unclear of yourself, and where you are putting your feet.

And there you have it.
This was the reading I pulled for myself, I felt I had to share it with you.
Partly as a sign of trust.
And something inside me was telling me to.
And I don't often argue with my instincts.

I hope you enjoyed it.
Don't forget to stop by on Thursday for YOUR reading.

Tarot Thursday

Welcome back.
Today is Tarot Thursday!
As you'll have seen yesterday, todays reading was brought to you from the middle of the woods. Nature fuelled this pull, and mother earth was the resting place for my deck.

So, drum roll please....

Knight of Pentacles

Court cards often represent people coming into your life, but the attributes I'm about to mention could refer to a new person around the corner, or it could be simply yourself.
Knights are about moving and action. Pentacles are about money, and material worth.
This card says that you are growing a dream. The card breathes an air of success, specifically financially. As a person, this card is someone loyal and committed.

It's telling you to take that next step, take action towards your dream...everything will work out fine.

Diamonds are a girls best friend

Today I did a reading for myself.
A 9 card spread, known as 'The Diamond Spread'.
It can be used in most situations, and for general non-question readings.

Card One - Represents you
Card Two - Your goals, and what's blocking them
Card Three - Your Dreams
Card Four - Your Knowledge. Achievements made, and mistakes learn't from
Card Five - Your Beliefs, a help or a hinderancce?
Card Six - Your Strength
Card Seven - Your Weakness
Card Eight - How you see yourself
Card Nine - Your Desires

Firstly, doing these bigger readings, has helped me a lot. It helps you make  a story, and you learn how to connect the cards better. Doing large spreads and spending a lot of time working on them I think will help any tarot reader in the making grow.

This above reading, was a bit of a shock to me because for the last two weeks, hardly any minor arcana has appeared in my personal spreads. This has loads.
Already this made my suspect a shift in my life.
Only 3 of these cards from 9, have appeared in my reading noticeably before.

I'm not going to go through the whole spread with you guys, as it's just for me anyway, but below I'll list all the cards in their positions, and I'll pick out a few to analyse in depth with you.
So,
Here we go.

Card One - Three of Arrows
Card Two - Page of Pentacles
Card Three - Two of Cups
Card Four - Five of Swords
Card Five - Strength
Card Six - Nine of Cups
Card Seven - Seven of Pentacles
Card Eight - The Fool
Card Nine - Queen of Pentacles.

The Two Of Cups appeared in Card spot three, which is the space relating to my dreams. This card is all about attraction, both romantic and friendship. It shows the exploration of potential, and finding new relationships, and forming stronger bonds.
Recently I've been feeling the absence of friends and like-minded people in my life. And it is true that it has always been a desire of mine, to have very tight-nit friends who I can share things with, have intellectual conversations with, make magic with, who are willing to put up with my crazy antics. And myself and my partner have recently been hitting a new level, after 8 years we're somewhere more advanced, at another stage, and I really want this growth to continue.
It's true that relationships are ever changing.

The Five of Arrows appeared in card space number 4, which is the space about knowledge gained from achievements and mistakes. This card screams about unfocused energy and anger, which leads to uncontrollable outbursts, and irrational thinking. In the picture you can see that through his frustration the archer is losing arrows almost blindly, never striking his target.
And boy, do I understand this feeling! This is definitely a mistake I've made frequently in my past. The appearance here in the spread, reminds me to stay focused and also realistic with my expectations.

The Fool is probably my favourite card in the deck. And it has appeared in the best location! In card spot number 8, it's situated in the spread as the way I see myself.
The Fool means pure potential. You are a bird leaving the nest, unthinking, no fear of consequences, ready for adventure.
This is 100% how I feel at the moment. However I also feel that by others my potential is unrecognised...

For now.

In card spot 6, I drew the Nine of Cups. Spot 6 represents your strengths.
This card means Generosity. Compassion being rewarded. A chain of events leading to good things.
I definitely feel like helping others is a strength of mine. I listen to people, and am always trying to aid them in some way.
And on a larger scale, as a vegan and nature lover, I help the world. I guess you could say I'm generous with my time and resources to help the world become a better place.

That sounded a bit big headed, didn't it?

But it's important for everyone to recognise their good points as well as their flaws.

And this is the card in space number 9, my desires spot. The Queen of Pentacles is one of the cards I've hade that's reappeared numerous times in my readings. The Queen of Pentacles suggests richness surrounding you. Pentacles usually have a reference to money and abundance. Queens are people who generate respect and have a very nurturing side to them, they raise people up and help fulfil them.
I'd never looked at this card as being a desire of mine  before. But their is truth in the fact that really everyone wants to be financially stable, and most people can't honestly say that they wouldn't want to be popular in some form.
This card also relates to my dreams card, and to my strengths card.
                                           ------------------------------------------

And that's that.
I hope you are enjoying following my tarot journey.

Divination Under A Burning Sun

Taking inspiration from this blog;
And
From a desperate urge to clear out my head, I headed off into the wilderness, and plopped myself down on the solid earth, in a lovely spot about five minutes from my house.
The sun was beaming down, my skin clammy in the heat. Iridescent dragonflies, guided me to my spot - where handfuls of beautiful butterflies awaited me. The ground was warm under my bare toes, the crispy grass breaking underfoot.

I took my paint supplies with me. I always like to get creative when I'm out in nature, and hence this little hare was born.

Doing magic actually out in nature is truly freeing. It overloads and opens the senses all at the same time. Due to my Parlour class being moved to a Sunday I will not be able to attend the live session (but I will be receiving the download and pdf later), So I thought I'd do a one card reading for my fellow witchbabies, as I cannot join them.

So it was time to rip off my lovely vintage atlas inspired scarf from LUSH which holds my tarot deck.

And this is the card I pulled for you beautiful people.
The Queen of Bows
(Or Wands to you normal deck holders)

So Queens represent people who nourish you and your dreams. People who are caretakers of all your hopes.
The Queen of Wands, is representative of a powerful, fiery figure coming into your life. Or it could mark a change in yourself. It suggests someone with previous successes, and someone who is known and respected in their courage.

I also took the oppurtunity to do a one card pull for myself...specifically revolving around guidance towards mellowing myself out. Before I left the house today, I was so overwhelmed. Nothing in particular, just lots of little things weighing heavily on my shoulders.

And this is the card I pulled,
Seven of Bows
(Again that's Wands to the rest of you)

It means Clearance. A time to make decisions and prioritise. What is really important in my life? And what is worn and broken, and is better chucked away?

I'm gutted that I can't be live at this weeks Parlour, but I look forward to seeing you all the week after, and to watching the chat-box stumble into the gutter in the download.

A Journey back to Emilie Autumns FLAG Tour in London.

So taking inspiration from https://twitter.com/LadyCyanide I decided to take a trip down memory lane, and share with you all my adventures to London to see Emilie Autumn once again for the FLAG Tour. This would be my 5th time at an EA concert, and my second time going as a VIP.
There were three of us going; myself, my friend Jadene, and EA veteran Becky (aka Stripy), who had kindly offered to make the perilous drive.

We made the journey unscathed to our London hotel, just a few short hours later. Once inside our little room, it was of direct importance to make use of that supplied kettle, and get the tea flowing. And once we were suitably refreshed, out came the corset, and hair thingys, and stockings. The glitter was abundant, and face jewels were applied.

Now it was on to public transport. (God, I hate London bus drivers!) We got a lot of odd looks, I'm sure to say...especially when we got near the venue and had to start tightening each others corsets ;)

I am always and early bird for EA gigs, ALWAYS! VIP or no, you just have to get there and experience the whole day. This gig was no exception. There was only one other small group there when we arrived outside the concert hall doors.

Veronica Varlow made an appearance, maybe 2 hours into our queuing. There is nothing like hugging this woman! She holds on for life, like your mere touch is a necessity. She of course remembered me from previous shows, and a few online conversations - I was lucky enough to be picked for the rat game back in 2010. She knows I always come with goodies. The year before had been a magic, gypsy charm bag, that I'd put together myself, including homemade candles. This year, was a handmade hair clip, that I must admit I was very proud of.
Her face when she opened it will stay with me forever.
We all took pictures and hugged alot, and then she whisked herself back of inside. But that was not the last we were to see of her. A bit later on when maybe 25 of us were in the queue, she came back, and with Beckys Boyfriends ukulele, serenaded us with her haunting vocals. This was followed up with a sing-a-long, of 'Girls, Girls, Girls', and a dance lesson for it!
It felt so special and intimate. It's the best queue experience I've had yet.

So not long after VIPers were allowed to enter the venue. When we went in we got to see the inside in all it's glory. A converted old theater is what stood before us, and it really helped set an atmosphere.
We lined up and were given our goodie bags! A signed set-list, a FLAG flag, and the TEA! You have no idea how long I'd waited for this tea. It was Emilies handmade VIP tour blend, in a beautiful golden tin, with the plague rat logo on the lid. When we popped it open it smelt like christmas.  Warm and spicy, cloves and oranges.

Emilie came out, and we queued for our solo time with her. I was 4th or 5th in line.
I love meeting Em, she's so wonderfully hand-sy. She just wants to stroke you and hold you. It's wonderful and comforting. I don't even really remember the full conversation that passed between us. I just remember vividly, the basking glow of her presence. A sense of warmth and contentness.
I gave her the hat I made for her, and she immediately  asked me to put it in her hair - with shaking hands I pinned it in.

She hugged me hard, and told me I was strong and beautiful. She probably does say it to everyone - but you can see in her eyes that when it comes from her mouth, she means it.

I left to visit the merch stall, while other people had their intimate moments. And then of-course the gig officially begun. I was front row center stage, with my girls, just like Em had asked us to be.
She looked so much like a warrior queen, in her new mohawk, and battle corset. The show starts the same most times, so I took this time, to collect some solid shots of the show. (See below)
But the dialogue sections were all totally new, and had me giggling like a lunatic. The whole crowd was doing group sing-a-longs, and it truly felt like we were united - like a girl power revolution!

I was especially excited to see 'Scavenger'. And it didn't disappoint! The air was crackling, it was so atmospheric, with the base reverberating around my chest. I had goosebumps as Maggot came out in full scavenger get up, on her stilts.
The final song was 'One Foot' - and here I had no choice but to let all my emotion out. I was overwhelmed with the love and sadness of it all. Tears flooded down my face, as I sang along, raising on paw infront of the other paw, into the air. Emilie saw me, and connected with my tears. She smiled kindly at me, reached forward, and signed I <3 U at me.
And of course, this only made me cry harder. Seeing Emilie looking at me, Becky reached over and clasped my hand. We were in this together! I clung to her for the rest of the song, and for the ending speech.
The final speech where Emilie appears on the verge of tears, as she tells us we are home - it touches something inside me. It reaches out to my heart and holds it, as tightly as I held Beckys hand.
Unity.
The Asylum, it is always inside us; our protection and our strength.
I love those women. They inspire me beyond belief. I have so much gratitude for the time they give us, the wisdom they teach us, and the love they've formed with us!

It's painful and raw...
But it is true.

Imbolc New Start Altar

One of my ultimate life inspirations Veronica Varlow, posted this tutorial - http://dangerdame.com/2014/01/27/how-to-become-the-person-you-want-to-be-in-2014/
On a bit of candle magick to become who you want to be. I knew I had to do this! And with Imbolc just around the corner, I thought this time of new beginnings was perfect.

So below is my own process of making this little altar, but Veronicas is better, so I recommend you go check hers out also.

First things first.
Find a log, or small tree stump that means something to you, and almost as importantly, won't roll on a flat surface.
This is mine. I was on my way to an old wood from my childhood, to find one...and I came across this in my path. Put there for me perhaps? Symbolically it's wonderful, cut from a young tree I walked passed daily to get to my boyfriends house, it's a true representation of clearing the old to promote new growth.

The next step involves candles...I suggest getting candles all the same length, so the burning time remains the same. You can either buy special candles, or I found it a great excuse to use up old candles I'd had around for years.
Veronicas blog calls for 9 candles...I limited this to 3 for my own personal choice. Partly because I couldn't choose any more words, and because 3 is also a magic number.

So, this is the hard part. Choose 3 (or however many applies) words that you wish to embody for 2014. 3 Wishes if you will, personal things. Personality, mind and soul words. Some can be internal, some can be external, to bring things your way. My words are; Courage, Creative, Loved. I think this is all I am wanting for the new year. Next carve these words into your candles...inscribing them with your thoughts and motivation.

Lighting each candle in turn, let wax drip and pool onto your log, to create a standing base for your candle. Press the base of the candle into the hardening wax. And make sure it is stuck tight. Remember these candles are to be lit, and if they fall off while alight, you may cause some serious damage to your home or to yourself.

Below is a photo of my finished result...I love it! I followed Ve's advice and placed my altar somewhere I will always see it. Every time I leave the house these words, and those emotions will be staring me in the face.

Happy Imbolc to anyone who reads this, and if you fancy making your own, please feel free to share them with me! And with Ve, she'd love to see them all!
